Manchichi (Mother and Child) Project in Panama

Dr. Gottula is a member of the Boquete Panama Rotary club #68399 District 4240 who will be visiting Denver and Colorado Springs for a few weeks.

He will be sharing information about an exciting project we underway called the Manchichi (mother and child) Project, which will sponsor and manage a training program for midwives (who have no formal midwife training) in an indigenous community nearby. The initiative is being modeled after a similar program in Guatemala that significantly reduced maternal mortality.  The goal is to significantly impact maternal and infant mortality in the indigenous people in the Ngobe Bugle Comarca in Panama which is about 10 times higher than in Panama City.
