Rotary Club of Castle Rock President Jerry Lionetti, right, presented Brent Janda the Rotary Student of the Month certificate at a recent meeting. Also at the presentation were Rex Corr, principal of Castle View High School, and Janda’s mother, Karen.

Brent Janda has been selected Rotary Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Castle Rock.

Janda, a senior at Castle View High School, was called a model student and a leader when CVHS Principal Rex Corr introduced him to the club recently.

Janda, who has taken eight advanced placement classes and carries a 4.2 grad point average, has earned three academic letters, is a National Hispanic Scholar and has been selected as an CVHS Outstanding Student. He also has been selected for the Colorado State Honors Band. He is active in the band at school, volunteers at a local hospital and works as a percussion teacher in the band.

Corr said Janda has never earned less than an “A” in any of his classes and that teachers describe him as at the top of the AP scale, well rounded, kind, humble and willing to help others. They say he cares more about learning than getting a good grade and that his thought processes are clear and concise and fueled by curiosity.

For his community service, Janda installed a rubber brick barrier, handicap ramp, and industrial umbrella in the community garden at the hospital. He also volunteers at the front desk.

Janda said he is considering a pre-med course of study in college and is looking at the University of Colorado, Colorado State University, the Colorado School of Mines and the Massachusetts Institution of Technology.
