"THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS"

"The future of Rotary is in your hands" is the theme and message for this fiscal year of 2009/2010 as pronounced by Rotary International President John Kenny of Scotland. Rotary's future is in the hands of each of us as Rotarians and as good neighbors in our local, national, and international communities.

It starts at the local Club level, which is the foundation that supports Rotary's success locally as well as on a global scale. We hold as Rotarians the potential to finally eradicate Polio from this world. Rotary's 24-year campaign against Polio has reduced the presence of this terrible disease to just four countries, though four countries still too many. "PolioPlus" campaign by Rotary is determined to remove Polio all together in the very near future, because the world can not afford to tolerate its presence due to the real threat of this  disease returning worldwide if it is not completely eradicated.

Rotarians as individuals are not limited just to supporting the international "PolioPlus" campaign. Projects such as providing clean drinking water to our fellow man and woman in impoverished villages and non-developed economies cannot be ignored. The future is in our hands to continue delivering such needed services through Rotary's matching grant programs.

Yes, the future of Rotary is in Our Hands and Yours so every child and adult will be free from the threat of Polio and free to drink clean drinking water. Rotary also has a great reputation in serving those in our own local communities. Rotary Club of Castle Rock and its partners will continue supporting, for example, the Women's Crisis Center and the Douglas/Elbert County Task Force, which unfortunately have a greater need than ever due in part to the challenging economic times. Scholarship programs of Rotary to create better understanding and peaceful relations between diverse cultures and nations are dependent on you too for their success.

Rotary is here to provide "Service above Self" for our fellow citizens of the U.S. and for humanity worldwide. Rotary needs you to influence a better community and life for all. Rotary has demonstrated since its inception in 1905 that it can and is often far more effective than well-intended government programs to improve the lives of those less fortunate.

Truly, the Future of Rotary Is In Our Hands!

Ken Konkel, President 2009/2010
Rotary Club of Castle Rock
