Colorado Western Slope - Palisade Peach Sale Fund Raiser

The 13th annual peach sale fund raiser for the Rotary Clubs of Castle Rock was a great success. 809 boxes of peaches were sold raising over $8,000 for the two clubs. All proceeds go back into the community and to the Rotary Foundation supporting such projects as:
- Built Rock Park Picnic Shelter
- Castle Rock Senior Center,
- Women's Crisis Center & Intervention Center
- Douglas Elbert County Task Force
- Annual Scholarships for High School Seniors
- Polio Eradication
- Operation Smile Projects
This year's fundraiser was organized by Joan Sjorstrom of the Morning Club and Pat Kukla from the Noon Club. Their began their efforts in June to organize volunteers and to contract once again with C and R Farms to provide us with the tree ripened delicious peaches from the Western Slope in Palisades, Colorado that we have come to know and love!.

The peaches sold for $28/box with each box containing about 22 peaches. A great deal for the size and quality provided! The fund raiser culminated on Saturday, August 29th with the delivery and distribution of over 20 pallets of peaches arriving in a semi-trailer from Palisades. Shown in the picture on the right is Mike Phibbs, Rotarian with the Morning Club receiving instructions on how to operate the fork lift from the truck driver.
The peaches were unloaded from the semi and staged in the cafeteria at Castle View High School where Rotarians prepared to distribute to the lucky customers who bought peaches. Shown below is Mike Phibbs supervising Fred Slick on the correct placement of the peach pallets in the cafeteria.

Getting the boxes ready for pickup is back-breaking work, but our Rotarians always rise to the challenge. Lyle Gates, Rotarian and Principal of Castle View High School shows us that maybe being a Principal is easier work than lifting boxes of peaches!!!

Once all the peaches were unloaded, it was time to take a break and get ready for customer pickup.

Some Rotarians like Tom Miller, President of Castle Rock Bank, sold peaches to his customers.

Pictured left to right: Rotarian Ed Brewer (Happy he doesn't have to load boxes), Rotarian Tom Miller (Proud of his sales effort) and Rotarian Graig Zierdt (doing all the real work to load the peaches for the customers!)
In the end, it all payed off as Joan Sjostrom helped customers check-in to pickup their peach order and Dave Watts merrily helped customers take their order to their vehicles.

A special thanks to Joan Sjostrom, Pat Kukla and all the Rotarian volunteers that helped make this fundraising event fun filled and a huge success!!
