 Ducky Derby a Huge Success!!!!!!!!

The 13th Annual Ducky Derby and Street Festival held on May 9, 2009 by Festival Park in downtown Castle Rock was a tremendous success.  Nearly $30,000 net proceeds were raised from a combination of the sale of  tickets to the duck race, cash sponsorships, street vendor participation, silent auction, car show, and, of course the beer tent.  Read more 2009 Ducky Derby

It was a great, mostly sunny day in the low 70s that brought out an estimated 3,000 - 5,000 fun seekers from Castle Rock and surrounding communities. The day featured music from the Castle Rock Orchestra, Castle Rock Orchestra Jazz Band, Castle Musicale, Tuna Boys Folk Band and the Castle Rock Crawdads.

Besides the myriad of food, merchandise and service vendors to visit, the people and children were treated to various events and demonstrations including the Waddle Walk contest for kids in differen age categories, a K-9 demonstration, a romp in the air jump, a live demonstration of hawks and owls and other birds by HawkQuest, face painting and more.

The day was capped off  by the big duck race that found 7,500 ducks churning in Metro Mix's

cement mixer, an alternative this year to Plum Creek which is in a prohibited construction zone. As the ducks were spewed from the cement mixer, they were collected into tubes and recorded in order of crossing the "finish" line.  The first place winner was the lucky number 3592 held by Andrew and Harrison Ford.  They were presented a check for $3,000.

In addition to first place,  there were over 500 winners of various merchandise, service and gift certificates donated by local merchants.  The "big board" shows only the first166 winning numbers.

The winner of the drawing among the cash sponsors was T Lowell Construction.  They will receive a year membership in the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce.   We sincerely appreciate the Chamber's donation of this great corporate prize for our inaugural corporate cash sponsor drawing.
